Louisville Roofing & Siding installs Raindrop gutter protection systems — the permanent solution to clogged gutters and twice-yearly ladder climbs.
Louisville's mature urban tree canopy makes gutter maintenance a constant battle — leaves in fall, helicopter seeds in spring, and debris from summer storms. Raindrop gutter guards solve this problem permanently with a polypropylene mesh system that allows water to flow freely while blocking every type of debris.
Unlike foam inserts that rot, screen guards that sag, or cheap clip-on covers that blow off, Raindrop guards are installed under the first course of shingles for a permanent, secure fit that won't void your shingle warranty and won't require annual adjustment.
Rain falls onto the polypropylene mesh surface of the Raindrop guard panel.
The mesh openings are sized to allow water to pass while blocking solid debris above a certain size.
Leaves, seeds, and debris stay on the surface and dry out — then blow or fall off the guard naturally.
Water flows freely into your seamless aluminum gutters and drains away from your foundation as intended.

Most gutter guard systems work by blocking debris from entering the gutter — screens, micro-mesh, solid covers with surface-tension water adhesion, or foam inserts that fill the gutter channel. Each of these creates a tradeoff: block the debris, but also restrict water flow or create surfaces where organic material accumulates and eventually roots or decomposes into the system.
Raindrop gutter guards use a different principle. The guard is a polypropylene grid insert that fits inside the gutter. Water flows through the large open grid surface and into the gutter channel below. Debris — leaves, twigs, seed pods, shingle granules — sits on top of the grid surface and dries out, then blows away or is easily brushed off. The design favors flow capacity over filtration: during a heavy Louisville downpour, the guard passes water fast enough to prevent overflow.
Micro-mesh systems offer excellent fine-debris filtration but are prone to two problems: metal mesh that corrodes in humid environments, and mesh openings that become partially clogged with fine particles like pollen and shingle granules over time. Solid hood systems work well in light to moderate rainfall but can overflow during heavy rain events because water shoots off the edge rather than adhering to the curved surface. Foam inserts accumulate debris inside the foam itself, eventually requiring replacement of the insert entirely.
Raindrop's advantage is simplicity and flow capacity. The polypropylene material is UV-stabilized and doesn't corrode, crack, or degrade in freeze-thaw conditions. Debris doesn't get trapped inside the system where you can't reach it — it sits on top where wind, gravity, and occasional rinse-off take care of it.
Louisville's tree canopy is one of its great assets — and one of the biggest challenges for gutters. Louisville neighborhoods like the Highlands, Clifton, and the East End have mature oak, maple, sweet gum, and sycamore trees that drop heavy loads of leaves, seed pods, and samara (maple "helicopters") through spring and fall. Sweet gum balls are a particular nuisance — they're too heavy to blow off standard micro-mesh and can accumulate quickly.
Without guards, gutters in a heavily treed Louisville yard may need cleaning three to four times per year to stay functional — spring after seed drop, summer after storm debris accumulation, fall during peak leaf season, and late fall after the last leaves come down. That's a recurring cost that adds up, plus the safety risk of ladder climbing for homeowners who do it themselves.
With Raindrop guards installed, most homeowners drop to once-a-year maintenance or less. The guards don't eliminate the need to ever check your gutters — an annual walkthrough to confirm everything is clear is still good practice — but they eliminate the frequent cleaning cycles that make gutters a maintenance headache.
Raindrop gutter guards are installed by snapping or screwing the polypropylene grid sections into the existing gutter channel. No modification to the gutter or roofline is required. The guards fit standard 5-inch K-style gutters, which are the most common residential gutter profile in Louisville. Installation on a typical single-story home takes two to four hours. Two-story homes and homes with complex rooflines take longer.
Raindrop carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. The polypropylene material is rated for UV exposure and temperature cycling, and it holds its shape in the freeze-thaw conditions that Louisville winters deliver.
